Melbourne Marathon After comprehensive
analysis of the Tan Relay results, Collingwood has again shown
its resilience through thick and thin. We will still be the only club
with teams in all divisions for 2009. However there is no time to rest as the pinnacle of the
season, the Melbourne Marathon, is upon us. We have a sizable
contingent competing in both the Marathon and the half Marathon. We
wish these runners all the very best on race day.
Collingwood
will be manning the 40km drink station and we require as many
volunteers as possible. We need 7 marshals at nearby points on the
course and 10 handing out drinks. Although its the 40km mark, we
require 7 people at the drink station by 6.00 am and the rest by
7.00 am for the 7.30am race start. Everything should be wrapped up
around 11:30am. Anyone interested please get in touch with John
Crameri.

Tan Relays After
the strong results in the fathers day half marathon, the Collingwood
Harriers are in a good position to strengthen the team's position, and
what better occasion to achieve that than the Tan Relays. With some new
team members on the cards and others returning from injury, the future
is promising so we need all members to attend this event.
The
Tan Relays will be held on 20 September at Kings Domain with the Mens
open commencing at 9am and the womens at 9:05. If you can not make it,
please let Magnus know so teams can be selected appropriately.
After the race, Collingwood Harriers will be holding an end of season family BBQ in the park.

Geelong Cross Country
On 12 July the annual Geelong Cross Country day of events will
take place at Eastern Park. Over the course of the day several
cross country events of varying distance will take place,
including the traditional 10mile (16km) run.
To aid in everyone getting there, we have booked a 25 seat bus
which will be leaving the club rooms no later than 10:15
Saturday. If you're interested in getting on board, please let
either John or Griffo know. The only cost involved is the fuel
which will be split between all the adults. If you're coming on
the bus you'll need to be at the club rooms by 10 for a 10:15
departure. After the race, we'll be returning fairly promptly. |
Coliban Ekiden Relay - A tough day but the future is
promising
Well, what we say about last week's race? It won't go down as
one of our most successful outings but some good things came of
it. Despite missing some 18 athletes, including 3 scratchings on
the day, we were still able to field 7 teams, 6 men's
teams and 1 women's team. The major highlight was the great form
and courage shown by our younger members. Jessica Neale's run on
the last leg was a gripping finale as she ran down a couple of
older competitors to finish strongly on the track in front of
her fellow members. Well done Jessica. The Warhurst boys again
showed their good form with Julian running faster than Anthony
Weiland on the final leg and Jonathan following in his older
brother's footsteps with ever improving performances. Nadeen
Roe, seven weeks out from England, and in only her second
Australian run of any sort, tackled the difficult first leg to
get her team off to a solid start. Another strong starter was
Will Shiels who’s first leg performance put Division 4 ahead of
Division 3.Click here for results.

Thursday Night Track Sessions
Each Thursday night at 7pm a group of the Collingwood
Harriers distance runners meet for a casual session at the
track. Sessions last about an hour and are arranged on the spot
according to who is there and what their training plans are. We
would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone interested in
coming along, whether your an accomplished runner or a new
starter. Indeed new starters may appreciate running with
friendly, experienced runners who can help with training queries
away from the pressure of personal trainers. We hope to see you
there. |

Rain Clearing For 'Kreek Krossing
Klassic'
Bad weather scared away
runners for the 2nd Annual Kreek Krossing Klassic, only 13
athletes attempted the 8k 'kross kountry'. The rain cleared
before the race started. Even though the rain stopped before the
start of the race, it managed to wash away a few marker on the
course, sending 3 athletes off in the wrong direction.

Polevault
Training
Tino has organised a group to train for Polevault. The
long awaited training group has already been training for a
few of weeks, and has already got a number of new
polevaulters over the 2.50m mark. The is no charge for
Collingwood Harriers, so come down and give it a try. They train
from 10am to 12pm Sunday mornings @ our track. Now is the perfect
time to start polevault, train over the winter season and who
knows, you might be a Division 1 Polevaulter at the start of the
summer season. |
Great Weather
For The 100 Yards Club Championships
The running of the Club’s time honoured 100 yards championships
took place at the George Knott Track on Sunday 17th.
of February. A good turn
up of athletes, officials and spectators saw the events run in
quite warm conditions. The sprinters were happy with the almost
perfect weather although some of
the runners contesting the one mile championship, held on
the same day, found the temperature a little on the warm side.
