XCR08 Season @ Collingwood
| |
The 2008 Winter season is upon us!
We are very excited at being the first Club ever to have a team
in every one of the seven divisions available for competition.
This, together with our promotion to Division 1 of the women's
competition, shows that we must be doing something right!
However we need more runners - badly. We have probably lost
three of our leading team from last year, which with the need to
find an extra five for the new Divvy 3 team obviously leaves a
little light on!
Justin Murphy and Cameron and Mark Kealy who have run with us
during the past few winter seasons are attempting to resurrect
their club, DeLaSalle, By building up a winter squad. We all
wish them the best of luck. I know that if it were Collingwood
in a similar position, there woul be a number of us fighting
tooth and nail to ensure our survival too. Top junior, Julian
Harris, has decided to have a go in a different environment
while very promising first year (2007) runner Mick Woods, is
having ongoing injury problems.
The women's team has not escaped unscathered either with top
junior, Sarah Grahame, gaining a scholarship to study and run in
the States.
Do you know anybody who may be interested? Yes, we need quality
runners but we also need numbers as well. Speed id not
essential, (however desirable!). A pulse and a ability to run
forwards is all that is needed.
Those of you who have been with us for some time know the
benefits of being a Collingwood Harrier: a friendly and
supportive atmosphere, terrific Club fixtures and facilities
second to none in Victoria, (if not the world!!).
Apart from the need for senior runners the Club wishes to really
build up our numbers in all age groups of the juniors. Again, do
you know anyone who may be interested?
Please do not hesitate to give me a call if you think a personal
contact from someone at the Club, other than yourself, may help
get a name on the dotted line!
And of course we want you back! The first Club race is the
traditional '4 Mile' on Saturday April 5th. There will be a 2k
run for juniors at 2:00 p.m. followed by the senior handicap. At
the conclusion of the running the trophies for the 2007 winter
season will be announced and presented.
Hope to see you and a stack of friends on the 5th.
